Josh’s Track Of The Week: J Cole – Breakdown

J Cole has to be one of my favorite rappers of ALL time. He is just about the power of his poetry. His beat selection and his approach are reflective of the early Hip/Hop days of mind blowing story telling imagery and poignant messages and the understated soul thumping loop!
This is off his record Sideline Story, and it was an amazing record, so here’s one my favorite moments of that record!

Josh Osho Interview w/ SugaSoul.pl

Interview with Polish Magazine SugSoul.Pl… Here is the english translation.
For the Polish check out the original article.

You went through the very difficult and tough time just a few years ago. What is the role of music in all of this?
It gives the experiences, emotions and situations a home, a context above and beyond just happening. Through inspiration I can tell a story and use each as a way of connecting with others.

Is it a kind of medicine to your soul or you want to give a support to others who may be in the similar situation?
Both to be honest, it is an indescribable feeling when I’m creating but I am aware of course that my version of events is a retold series of stories and emotions that we all can all experience and relate to.

How did come the decision that you want to be a musician?
It wasn’t really a coming to a decision kind of thing, I just came to a realisation that I had a gift and stuck with it as it felt like the right thing to do

What or who was your biggest inspiration?
My mum and dad 100% and always will be every moment I’m still breathing

In your great song “Giants” you seem to be so powerful and positive. Do you think this what happened in your life, made you a stronger person?
For sure but I think just living life whoever we are or wherever we are or whatever we experience we ALL are subject to situations of comfort and discomfort so it’s a constant process of growth and learning whether we
surrender to it or not.

What kind of message can we expect on your forthcoming album “L.I.F.E.”?
That…”L.I.F.E.” – Learning Is For Ever

How did you come up with the title of this album?
It was something my Dad used to say to me a lot and when I looked over my life not just as an artist but as a young man and then looked around me it felt apt for the theme

How would you describe your music style?
I can’t really describe it. I think that’s been our biggest mistake, constantly trying to formularise something that is too big to comprehend through words. Music is at its best when it’s just music. I just do what I do and leave everyone else to call it what they like.

What brings you bigger satisfaction – work at studio or live shows? (why so)
Both for different reasons. Studio is where I create and there’s no feeling like this inspiration, it’s like being possessed but then there is also no matched high like coming off stage having smashed the Granny out of it.

What can people expect to see during your live performances?
They’ll definitely see a lot of me! It’s very charged energy wise. Emotionally I throw every part of myself into all my performances.

Do you have plans to make tour outside of the UK?
God willing yeah, if things go well!

You are so talented and still so young. Is there a goal which you’re dreaming badly to accomplish?
Not really one, I just wanna keep making positive progress, connecting with people and one day I’d love to own a farm.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I love the gym! A good book, foooood and just chilling & recharging my batteries.
